B&R Kennels Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is your minimum age for boarding a dog?
At B&R Kennels, our primary concern is always the health and safety of our four legged guests! For this reason, our minimum boarding age is four months old. This is because it is recommended by veterinarians that puppies get their first round of “adult vaccines” at 16 weeks old, including rabies and distemper. If you need to board a pet that is younger than four months, B&R Kennels can recommend a veterinarians office until they have reached our minimum age requirement! Will my dog smell after I pick them up? B&R Kennels prides ourselves on our very meticulous cleaning and sanitizing procedures. We use veterinarian grade disinfectants to keep our kennels clean and safe! But of course, in our kennel runs or while playing outside during playtimes, a dogs natural odor may become more apparent! We totally understand that some clients may be more sensitive to this! B&R Kennels always recommends that clients add a bath to their itinerary before taking their furry friend home, no matter how long they are boarding. But, to ensure you have a pleasant ride home we have implemented a mandatory bath policy for any guest staying longer than 4 days. I'm boarding my pet for the first time? What should I expect? We are all pet lovers here at B&R Kennels and want you to know that we understand that it can be stressful when you leave your pet for any period of time. But we assure you, your pet will definitely adjust to our friendly staff and our daily routines. Cleaning, feeding, playtimes, bathing, and grooming are all done on a scheduled routine and monitored by our kennel staff. We do recommend that you establish a meal time schedule of twice a day feeding prior to boarding. B&R Kennels feed once in the morning and again in the evening. Bedtime is at 7pm here, so it may be beneficial to start making sure your pets are winding down in the evenings about a week before their stay. Can all my pets stay together in the same kennel run? Yes! B&R Kennels will always advise pet owners to board any siblings in a kennel run together, as long as temperament and behavior works! Being around a friendly and familiar face will definitely help your pets feel much more comfortable while they are staying with us! B&R Kennels does however recommend that no more than two dogs room together. While our kennel runs are certainly spacious; just like people it can be tough living in closed quarters with another pet. So, we do not recommend more than two dogs in a run. If the B&R Kennels staff notices any aggression or fights between pets, we reserve the right to separate them. In the event of this, the client will have to pay boarding fees for separate runs, starting the day they are separated. Do you require a deposit in advance of a boarding visit? Starting January 1, 2022 we are requiring a $25 deposit for boarding. This deposit will be credited toward your final bill at the end of your stay. This deposit is non refundable if you have to cancel, however, if you have purchased travel insurance for your trip, it may be covered under that agreement. Your deposit should be paid at the time of reservation. We cannot hold reservations for unpaid deposits. What is your cancellation policy? We ask that you cancel your reservation as soon as possible, but know that sometimes things arise that make that impossible. Because we have instituted our deposit policy, we are able to avoid having a cancellation fee. While my dog is boarding with you, will he be taken out for walks? Your pet gets 1 nature walk in the morning and 1 shorter potty break in the evening, included in your daily rate. B&R Kennels offers a few different playtime or additional walk options for your pet! Playtime can be an incredible part of your pets stay with us. B&R Kennels has over ten separate fenced in areas, guaranteeing a great time for your pet! Playtime is always supervised by a staff member. We always recommend adding a few extra playtimes to your pets stay. It is a great way for your pet to get out of the kennel and stretch their legs! Even a single one hour play session during a week stay can make a world of a difference in your pets relaxation level in boarding! Check out the boarding and playtime session page for more information! Where is my dog going to go to the bathroom when in your care? B&R Kennels has indoor/outdoor kennel runs that are sanitary and safe. Dogs in our care will eliminate in the exercise, or outdoor portion of the run, or outdoors during walks and/or playtime. These areas are well suited for this purpose, and are regularly sanitized. Our highly trained kennel staff continuously monitors all elimination and consumption behavior. This helps us take the best care of your pet! My pets like to have toys with them. Can they have their favorite toys while boarding? Of course! Your pets are more than welcome to have a few toys with them in their run. This can help remind them of home and also give them some fun to do! If you do bring toys from home, we ask that you clearly mark them with your last name. Your pets toys will be kept with them in their run and we always do our best to return them to you. But, please remember that toys may be lost during cleaning or playtime. If you prefer not to bring toys from home, we have plenty to provide for their stay! Just make a request when you make a reservation! Can I bring bedding for my pet for boarding? B&R Kennels requests that you not bring your pet's personal bedding for their boarding visit. We provide comfortable and clean bedding and blankets for all of our pet guests. Pets can be highly possessive of their personal bedding and may become agitated when our staff removes the bedding for sanitizing, which, for the health and safety of our pets, we must do each day. Can I bring in my own food? Absolutely! In fact, B&R Kennels highly recommends it. Keeping your pets diet the same helps maintain a sense of familiarity and can prevent them from an upset tummy. We request that you bring your food in individual container that are pre-measured. This assures that your pet will be receiving the same amount of food in boarding as they would at home. However, if you would like to use our house food just let us know when making your reservation! B&R Kennels uses a chicken and rice based diet. What vaccinations are required to board my dog? We require your dog to be vaccinated against rabies, parvo/distemper and bordetella (kennel cough). We strongly recommend that your dog be vaccinated against bordetella at least 2 weeks prior to boarding, so that the vaccination has time to take effect before entering the kennel. We also recommend that you talk to your veterinarian about vaccination against a recent canine influenza, H3N8, but the vaccine is not required for boarding or bathing. B&R Kennels reserves the right to refuse any client without current vaccines or if the vaccine expires during their stay. While B&R Kennels does their due diligence to check with your pets veterinarian prior to the pets stay in boarding, it is the clients responsibility to make sure any vaccine records are emailed over ahead of time. What vaccinations are required to board my cat? We require your cat to be immunized for rabies and feline distemper. B&R Kennels reserves the right to refuse any client without the vaccines or if the vaccine expires during their stay. While B&R Kennels does their due diligence to check with your pets veterinarian prior to the pets stay in boarding, it is the clients responsibility to bring an updated shot record upon arrival or send it beforehand via snail mail, fax, or email. What are the check-in times for boarding? Monday through Friday, pets can be checked in and out between the hours of 8am-11:45am and 1pm-3:45pm. Saturdays, we are open from 9am through 1pm(drop off and pick up by 12:45pm). Sundays, you can check in or out between 3pm and 5:45pm only. How are boarding fees calculated? Boarding fees begin the day you check in your pet, regardless of the time. You are charged daily boarding for each day your pet stays with us. Our “check-out” time is 12pm Monday through Saturday, so picking up before 12pm ensures you are not charged for that day of boarding. If you pick up after 12pm, you will be charged for the day. B&R Kennels offers a courtesy to our clients of afternoon drop off/pick up on Sundays. Sundays are always charged as a full day. Can I pick-up/drop-off my pet out of your normal business hours? We do not off after hours drop off and pick ups as a routine service. After hour/ late pick up and drop offs will be charged an additional fee that will be added to your invoice automatically. Are cats kept separate from the dogs? Definitely. We have a separate room for the kitties to board in – this makes for happier kitties (and doggies, too!) Is it OK if I call to check on my pet while I’m out of town? Absolutely! Please call during business hours of 8am to 4pm to get an update on your pet. You can also send an email requesting an update and photo of your pet. We'll get back to you as soon as we can! What days are you closed during the year? There are some exceptions to this policy, so please let us know your concerns when making your reservation if your pet has some special concerns. My pet takes several medications. Will you give my pet these medicines? We are happy to give oral, topical, and injectable medications that have been prescribed by your veterinarian. We ask that you bring the medications in their original containers so we understand exactly what we are giving and have information regarding dosage, prescribing veterinarian, etc. |

We understand that it has become more difficult in recent years to get in to the vet for vaccines on short notice. Therefore, we will accept DHPP and Bordetella vaccines given by you at home. In order to do this, they must be properly documented on paper with the vaccines sticker, date it was given, and your initials. Please note that it is very important when buying vaccines OTC, that they stay cold up until the time they are given and that they are given properly. Vaccines can become inactive if not kept at a certain temperature. Also note, that if you choose to give vaccines at home, there most likely won't be a guarantee that comes with it in case of adverse reaction or illness. Before giving any vaccines, it is important to know what to look for in case of reaction and where to go for treatment. We are not recommending you give vaccines, only informing you that we will accept owner records if documented properly. We reserve the right to refuse them if questionable. *any pet that arrives without updated records or expired vaccines, will be turned away Please send forms to BandRKennels@Gmail.com
